Think of any great house in any great story. The brilliant detective, the masked billionaire, the lady of the manor. Now think harder — about the man standing just behind them.

He answered the door at midnight. He kept the accounts, remembered every guest's name, had the car ready before it was asked for, and served breakfast the next morning as if nothing had happened. He was never the story. He was the reason the story could happen.

Fiction's most famous version of him raised an orphan into a legend while keeping a very complicated household running. Real history had thousands of him: stewards and butlers whose entire profession was everything else — so the people they served could do the one thing only they could do.

The profession disappeared. The work didn't.

The work multiplied. Customer reviews now arrive at 11pm and expect an answer by morning. Google Business Profiles want fresh posts for every location.
